Jobber length drill bit: These bits can be measured using a number of different systems including a Basic number range (#1 - 80), Letters (A - Z), Wire (increase by whole number), standard metric sizing or in fractional sizes.

Chips separate in either of THREE ways: 1) They break by themselves
2) They break against the tool
3) They break against the work-piece.

The chips you generally want to aim for are the self-breaking kind.

Chips that break against the tool can cause chip hammering and tool breakage.
Those that break against the workpiece can damage surface finish.
